It is extremely likely that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is going to be with us forever. In order to return to a lifestyle that approaches an acceptable “normal”, the majority of our citizens will need to be vaccinated against this virus. While vaccination is not perfect it will almost certainly protect us from serious illness or death and markedly reduce our chance of passing this virus on to others who are more vulnerable.
The mixed messaging in mainstream media and outright misinformation in social media has caused distress and confusion and we remain alarmed and saddened to hear the fear behind comments and questions from our patients. We condemn conspiracy theories and the search engine algorithms that lead sensible people down narrower paths that blind them to the facts.
We strongly recommend vaccination. Every adult must, of course, decide for him/herself. There is no perfect choice in life, everything has potential for benefits and risks. You may not even be conscious of how many risks you take in the decisions you make every day. We hope that each of you will do broad research and bring your questions to discuss with your trusted doctor in order to make the wisest decision for you, your loved ones and your community.
Our COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics
While we have ample access to AstraZeneca vaccines and encourage all patients 60 years and over to have their first dose as soon as possible, we have a limited supply of Pfizer vaccines at present. We will therefore prioritise it for the active patients of our practice, particularly those patients who are 12 to 59 years of age and currently eligible. (An active patient is someone who has attended our surgery for a consultation with a doctor during the last two years).
All children 12 years and older and all adults are now eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. Please click on the link below to book an appointment. If you have any questions at all about COVID vaccination please book a telephone consult with our GP to discuss in more detail. If a Pfizer booking is delayed and you need to be vaccinated now, anyone 18 years and older may choose to proceed with the AstraZeneca vaccine as per ATAGI guidelines. For further information about COVID-19 vaccination including the benefits and risks please read the information available from the NSW Department of Health.
